More is Not Better on MySpace

More is not better

There’s an old saying “less is more”. In the world of MySpace this couldn’t be more true. We’ve all seen it. You get a new comment request on your page and it’s a band that decided to post a picture that’s 24 inches tall by 12 wide advertising their next show in Scranton, Pennsylvania meanwhile you live in San Francisco.  Not only that but they feel they need to do this every day until the show.

Listen up bands! This is one of the fastest ways to lose a fan base AND get deleted from someone’s page. The more you post and SPAM the easier you are to be forgotten. It’s called oversaturation. It’s one thing if you are saturating the market with billboards, commercials, retail displays etc, but it’s another thing to spam people on MySpace over and over to the point that they get sick of seeing you.

Be selective with your posts and you will get more traffic.

Rules to keep in mind:

1. Don’t overspam your friends

2. Don’t post videos that auto-play on someone’s page

3. Don’t post music that auto-plays on someone’s page

4. Always send a personalized “thank you” note to your new friend/potential fan

5. When you request a friend send a note and ask them to take a listen to your music

6. Don’t assume everyone on your friends list likes your music. Some people are just friend gatherers

7. Add an email sign up form (sign up for ReverbNation.com) on your page and people WILL sign up

8. Try and keep your page vertical. That means don’t make it so people have to scroll left and right to view your page

9.  Post blogs. This is a great way to keep people up to date on your events

10. DO NOT OVERPOST BULLETINS! This is an absolute rookie maneuver. Post once a day on the same topic and ask your friends to repost for you. You will get tons more traffic doing this then you would if you kept posting the same bulletin to the same people.

These are just a few tips. Check back here for more in the coming days.  www.MaxPlays.com
